Five Questions With: Stephen Kellogg

KelloggPoster.jpg1. WHAT WAS THE FIRST RECORD YOU BOUGHT?
The first record I bought was Judas Priests "Sin After Sin". It was immediately followed by lots of other hair metal bands and eventually I found my way to my favorite metal. It was in the discount bin and it was loud, both of which were attributes.

2. WHAT IS THE MOST RECENT (GREAT) RECORD YOU'VE HEARD?
I've heard a lot of great songs lately but not a lot of great records because I think people are focusing so much on singles with iTunes and everything else. I guess the last record that I thought was great from start to finish would have to be Whiskeytown's "Pneumonia". Not so recent, but it's been a while...no you know what, I really like Jack Johnson's new record and the way it makes me feel when I'm home with my family, that's great.

3. WHO OR WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START MAKING MUSIC?
Two things. My Dad always listened to Cat Stevens, CSNY and Eagles records-that was huge, I loved hearing that around the house. Then my sister took me to see Whitesnake when I was 10 and I thought that looked like a pretty fun job.

Oh yeah. I feel really guilty admitting this. One Summer I stayed with my Grandparents and I would work for a little extra money. I'd go to the indie record shop all the time and I kept buying cassettes...then I found a stash of cash that must have been there for stamps...{guilt} and I stole it so I could go buy more Whitesnake records. At least I was stealing from people who loved me and not sending the record shop out of business, but there it is in all it's ugly glory-the truth.

5. IF YOU WEREN'T A MUSICIAN, WHAT WOULD BE THE NEXT RUNNER UP?
Tough question. I like College Basketball Announcer, Teacher or Writer, or maybe a stagehand for "The Sopranos". It's really scary to think of because I'm not ready for any other job right now and I don't know what I'd do.
