Cold War Kids -- FREE INSTORE
Cold War Kids
FREE INSTORE
Tuesday, October 10, 7:00
Due to high demand for this event, the Cold War Kids in-store will be a wristband event. Here's the deal: We are currently distributing a wristband with each copy of Robbers & Cowards pre-ordered prior to the event. Any remaining wristbands will be distributed, first come first serve, when the new record goes on sale Tuesday 10/10 at 10:00am (the in-store starts at 7:00pm). The only way to guarantee yourself a spot for this private performance is to pre-order the band's new album. We will be happpy to help you with your order via the web (link), over the phone, or if you like that face-to-face thing, we're here all day, every day.
**For those who are coming from out of the area or who have a conflict Tuesday morning we will be happy to hook you up over the phone, after 11:00am. Please be aware that there is a limit of 2 wristbands per person, however you get them.
Okay, here is the inside scoop; Cold War kids are going to be huge. If you believe the blogs they already are, and with the exception of a couple of EPs, their record isn’t even out yet. Described by the LA Times as sounding like The Velvet Underground meets Spoon, with a healthy dose of Oh Brother Where Art Thou, this local band has played a residency at LA’s Silverlake Lounge, toured with Tapes and Tapes and The Futureheads and now, due to some strange cosmic good luck, they’ve agreed to stop in and have a little album release party on our little stage on the very day that Robbers and Cowards, their debut album, hits the shelves. If you’d like a little taste, here’s what you should do: Click your way over to daytrotter and download the live session CWK recorded in their studio, then click over here and read this article where the LA Times picks them as one of the Top 5 local bands to watch, pay special attention to the songs God Make Up Your Mind, Hospital Beds, and We Used to Vacation (I’d mention the other one too, but I forgot the name). This should be one of those in-stores where people are still talking about it long after it’s over.
Some legitimate press:
“…with a sound so original and timeless you wonder how it sprang from the Los Angeles suburbs and not the dark, rich loam of the bayou. Equal parts Velvet Underground, spare-as-Spoon indie rock and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack, their parables are as ragged as the characters they immortalize — a man who's on death row, an alcoholic father, a poor family — and as unvarnished as the rawest of emotions. - Kevin Bronson (LA Times Music Writer)
"A gorgeous piece of geek-rock soul...Bravo, kids!" - Rolling Stone (4-Star review)
"Imagine the rawness of The White Stripes on day one. Or what Spoon would sound like at a church camp making music with found objects." - LA Weekly
