Aqualung -- FREE INSTORE
Aqualung
FREE INSTORE
Saturday, 02/17, 1:00PM
(Private Party, details below)
Matt Hales is Aqualung and he's occupied a spot on our radar since a jet-setting friend came back from the UK raving about some new band he'd heard in a Volkswagen commercial, he described them as a sleepy Radiohead. Needless to say, he was referring to the then fledgling Aqualung, who do a fantastic job of combining bedroom pop with epic swirls and weird time signatures. Aqualung often garners comparisons like the one above, but when you delve into the subject matter it becomes apparent that Matt is a beast of a different stripe - melodic yet softly glitchey, his songs lend themselves to the big cinematic finish as they do to rainy night cab ride. Matt is currently on a co-headlining tour with Pete Yorn, reintroducing himself to fans after a long break to record his upcoming album, which is due in early March.
This will be a private wristband event, but wristbands are available to with pre-order of Matt's new album Memory Man. Pre-order includes a free disc of live radio sessions entitled Live and Rarities (which, among other tracks, includes a couple of KCRW sessions plus a live version of Queen's "Somebody To Love," the rarities disc will only be available with pre-order) plus a Fingerprints event poster and obviously a wristband to see the show. Wristbands are going fast, so hustle if you're hoping to attend.
