Fresh off of an Australian Summer festival tour with the Beastie Boys, Money Mark will be dropping in to play some songs off of his Brushfire Records debut album, Brand New By Tomorrow (out 2/27/07). For those unfamiliar with Mark's history, he's worked extensively with The Beastie Boys, played on a couple of Beck's records, and been a featured player on a ridiculous number of other albums you probably have in your collection, including Handsome Boy Modeling School, Blackalicious, Banyan, and most recently on some side projects with the Mars Volta's Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, all in addition to some very well received solo albums. Old fans might be surprised to hear that this time he's taking a break from being the collagist to be the front man, spending an equal amount of time singing as he used to spend spinning, sampling, and riffing keyboard fills. If Mark's previous solo albums were a schitzophrenic mix of everything from Tropicalia to Hip-hop, Rock, Pop, and Soul they all had the unifying theme of being a soundtrack to a house party, with Brand New By Tomorrow Mark slows the party down to focus on the song, rather than the beats; the word is this record was one of those "getting through a break-up" albums, and it's likely to find a spot on your shelf next to Stevie Wonder's Talking Book.

We will be doing a drawing at the in-store for an 8" signed vinyl Money Mark Doll (think wicked limited, keystone of your collection designer vinyl). This will be a private event, but wristbands are available for free in the store or via phone. Drop by or call soon, cause they're going fast.
