Up until this point, Chuck has been best known as the vocalist in the band Hot Water Music, but, since the band went on hiatus, he's been gearing up (or down, possibly) for a run at the whole singer-songwriter thing. You see, Chuck has a bit of an appreciation for Mr. Bob Dylan and it comes through loud and clear, but in a very different manner than the loud and clear of his former band. Chuck's most recent album, and his first on his own, is a live thing called Los Feliz and it's a mostly voice and guitar thing, with a bit of harmonica thrown in for variety. The songs are all new, except for a Dylan song (Fixin' to Die) and a Standard that wasn't standard enough to jump out at me. Anyway, it's got a bit of a Flogging Molly, punk goes acoustic thing going, and that should help him get his music into the ears of a whole new group of fans. We'd love to have you stop in to be part of what is sure be a very special event.

Los Feliz is released on May 8th. This will be a wristband event, with a free wristband with purchase of Los Feliz, also included will be a wicked cool poster for the event that will be suitable for both signing and framing.

Good-intentioned philosophers may try to boil life down to one universal truth or "secret," but they're missing the point. Ultimately, life is composed of so many experiences, emotions and relationships that it's impossible to break it down like a chemical compound. Chuck Ragan has always understood that dichotomy, whether he was screaming over buzzing guitars in Hot Water Music or pouring his heart out over a bed of acoustic instrumentation as he does these days. Ultimately, the one constant in Ragan's music is the way it personifies life's beauty and struggles with equal aplomb.
