Sunday, October 15th will remain an important day for us here at Fingerprints, it was a day of both discovery and sharing; for those among us intimately familiar with Craig Finn and company’s literate snapshot sketches and the careening warped canvas over which they’re stretched, it was a discovery of a softer side of the band – stripped down acoustic yet still reeling, wordy yet still concise, quieter yet still rock and roll – for those who had been resistant to the enthusiasm of the converted, it was a discovery of a band on the verge of greatness, a resignation of resistance, and an acceptance of that which makes great rock and roll more than the sum of its parts, its heart. The Hold Steady are a band with a giant rock and roll heart and on October 15th it slowed down enough get all of our attention. This, very limited, live CD captures Craig, Tad, Galen, Bobby, and Franz stripping things down for a small private party to celebrate the release of their outstanding album Boys & Girls in America and the glorious results will be available beginning April 17th.
