Ingrid Michaelson -- FREE INSTORE
Ingrid Michaelson In-store Performance
Friday, 6/8, 7:00pm
Somewhere along the way the term female singer-songwriter became a pejorative, something that might cause someone to turn up their nose while making mumbling noises about Lillith Fair - well the world has changed, yet again, and gone is the image of strummed along journal readings, and in its place are incredible artists like Ingrid Michaelson (along with other substantial artists like Regina Spektor, Feist, and the more established Suzanne Vega and Aimee Mann; all women who've suffered at the hands of an unfair stereotype). Ingrid's music runs the spectrum from crunchy, almost noisy, rockers to much quieter, piano based songs that have enough swing to make you want to move in a little more energetic fashion than the accepted indie-rock head nod. Ingrid has had the good fortune to catch the ears of music supervisors for TV shows like Grey's Anatomy (she had the big song in the Season Finale), One Tree Hill, and Kyle XY; attention that has not gone unnoticed by the mainstream press with an appearance on Good Morning America and the Wall Street Journal doing a full feature on her and her decision to forgo the major-label star making machine in favor of doing it herself.
Part of doing things on your own is playing whenever folks will have you; we consider ourselves pretty lucky to have Ingrid in to playing this Friday night on her way to play a Laguna Beach Benefit with Brett Dennen. Please try to shuffle things around so you can join us, it is setting up to be a memorable evening.
Wanna hear her music? There's a player on Ingrid's Myspace page, as well as plenty of info about her on her website.
Check out a great little local feature at LA Splash.
For a bit of live music, here's Ingrid performing "Far Away" at a little Inn back on October, and here's a taste of her personality before she breaks into "The Way I Am" at the Canal Room in April.
