What could be a better way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon than a little live music and some good companionship? We've been fortunate enough to have Tom Brosseau stop in to play for us on a couple of occasions (including an opening slot the last time Sparklehorse came through), and we're happy to see that he's enjoyed his time with us enough to make us a part of his plans this time around as well. For the uninitiated, Tom makes stunningly beautiful folk music that has such an old-time quality to it, that it almost comes the full way around to "timeless" - High and lonesome to be sure, but with a humanity that surpasses the other descriptives. Mojo Magazine said of Tom "...there's real depth to the lyrics, and they're sung in a voice so confident in its smooth, Ricky Nelson-esque purity that it barely needs accompaniment..." For the last several years there has been a bit of a Folk Revival (or an Anti/freak Folk Revival, maybe) with artists like Devandra, Joanna Newsom, and some of the Berkeley Guitarists we've had in to play, getting some national attention; and it would be easy to lump Tom in with these others who make current music with long roots, but Tom seems to have alternately gone farther and stayed closer than any who might be called his contemporaries.
