THE CLOGS - FREE INSTORE
3:00 PMThis is gonna be a little bit new for us, not since Tin Hat Trio have we had an instrumental artist in who was so difficult to decscribe. Clogs is a project featuring Padma Newsome on viola and Bryce Dessner on guitar, both of whom play in the wildly acclaimed band The National (though Padma is best known for his compositions for orchestras, and chamber groups). When playing with the Clogs they are usually joined by Rachael Elliott on Bassoon and Percussionist Thomas Kozumplik and the four of them make compelling improvised music that has garnered favorable comparisons to musicians as varied as Mogwai and Arvo Part. The reality, as always, lies somewhere in between; closer to ensemble music created for imaginary Al Pacino films than it is wall of sound shoe-gaze minimalism, the Clogs in-store will definitely be one that will stay with you.

Clogs will also be performing with Books, later the same night, at the Knitting Factory.
Here is some recent press:
“[T]his is music of such intense beauty that each successive piece is like another exquisite blow on a bruise.” - The Guardian (UK)
“Clogs are four musicians from Australia and the U.S. whose original compositions are marked by buoyant improvisations and influences from across the musical spectrum, from the immediacy of folk music, to the driving energy of rock, to the complexity of modernism. "It might be better to forgo any genre distinctions and head straight for the thesaurus so you can find fresh and exciting ways to say 'sublime'." - Pitchforkmedia.com
“The 'contemporary classical' tag doesn't do justice to their cinematic, intense instrumental narratives: like Mogwai's, they tend to build to within an inch of breaking point." - UNCUT MAGAZINE (UK) :: 4 STARS
