GOMEZ – Free Instore

Sunday, May 21st 2:00pm (Free Wristband Required

The last time Gomez came to town, they played KCRW’s Sounds Eclectic Evening at Universal Amphitheater (or whoever’s corporate graffiti is on the place this week). Well, for everyone who had a crappy seat, or couldn’t afford a ticket, have we got good news for you; Gomez is bringing their traveling road-show to our little corner of the world… and we’re going to record it, hopefully for a future release. Gomez is currently touring to support their new release, How We Operate, it’s their fifth and first with an outside producer (Gil Norton, who’s worked with the Pixies, Counting Crows, and the Foo-Fighters.) Happily, I can say it’s the best Gomez record yet, ripe with 60s and 70s influences peppered into their signature sound, and considering that their debut was a favorite around here, not to mention a Mercury Prize winner, that’s saying a hell of a lot. For those unfamiliar, Gomez’s music is a heady blend of bluesy rock, glorious hippy vibes, all with a dash of alt-country, and a smidge of straight-ahead indie rock; the resulting stew is loaded with groovy good time music, heavy on both melody and harmonies.

This will be a private party, open only to folks with a wristband, so make sure you get yours while they last, they are available now and are free (limit of 2 per person).

Some Recent Press:

“There is very little on Operate that sounds like anywhere Gomez have been before.”
- Stylus Magazine

“The finest and most listener-friendly album of Gomez's 10-year career.”
- Billboard

“[Gomez] sheds most of its psychedelic trimmings and bluesy wailing for a disc of tight, mature Chris Martin-style pop-rock.”
- Entertainment Weekly

“How We Operate is strong, focused, and a complete pleasure to engage; its maturity and confidence is beyond anything they've released thus far, and the experimentalism brought into play on their other albums is here.”
- All Music Guide
